LAN-HE (Blue Lotus). Grower's name, Chen Dezhong, Peace Peony Nursery, Lanzhou, Gansu, P.R. China. From the seedling of P. rockii cv. Single lilac blue flower, 7.2 inches in diameter, flat peach flower bud. Larger petals extending flat, basal blotches purplish black 1.2x1 inches. White sheath enclosing fully carpels, stigmas creamy, anthers much, filaments pale purple only near the base. Stamens, pollen, seeds. Plant upright, strong grower, with many branches and suckers. Leaves narrow elongate, upper deep green and lower much hairy. Stem strength, hardy enough to resist winds and hold flower above the leaves. To be called Lan He in Chinese, with characteristics of blue flowers, single petals, 18cm×8cm corolla, flowers in clusters while blooming sweetly with leaves being patulous upwards, general growing situation with half-patulous posture, many sprouted base stems as well as the early blooming period. |
