Valentine (Hollingsworth 2004) ML. Semi-Double, many petals of a near spectrum red color, unusual hue in a peony flowering at this season, centered by a cluster of yellow stamens, smaller petals and carpels. We had delayed the decision to name it because of sometimes bud failure. It is now named and offered to make the breeding potential available under name rather than having it go into the trade under number. Valentine is the seed parent of our ‘Cherry Ruffles’ and other fiery red hybrids having an important measure of doubleness. Parentage: (Kickapoo x either Karl Rosenfield or a hybrid).
