RUSHLIGHT (Saunders, 1950) - Single - Ivory-Cream - Hybrid. Clear ivory cream; gold center. Triple hybrid: albiflora crossed by a second generation tenuifolia x Mlokosewitschi hybrid. Saunders 1955 catalog. List in Bulletin 129.

RUTH BRAND (Brand, 1907) - Double - Pink - Midseason. Soft lavender pink, shaded deeper. Spreading habit. M. List in Bulletin 130.

RUTH BYRD (Lewis, 1921) - Single - Pink - Midseason.

RUTH CLAY (Kelsey, 1935) - Double - Red - Early Midseason. A rich living red that is different. It is truly an outstanding red. Lists in Bulletins 91 and 109.

RUTH ELIZABETH (Brand, 1936) - Double - Red - Late. Dwarf plant. Dark red of a rich hue. Perfect exhibition form. Silver Medal. Hard to beat in any way. Lists in Bulletins 91 and 130.

RUTH FORCE (Shaylor, 1921) - Jap. - Pink - Midseason to late. Bright cerise-pink guard petals; stamens edged with petal color. (Apparently little known. The description does not give color of center (presumably yellow), but if it is a Jap, "stamens" should be "staminodes," and surely the petal color would be in the middle and the yellow on the edges.) Manual. M. .

RUTH GALLAGHER (Cooper, 1946) - Double - White - Midseason. Tall. Cream colored bomb type. Note: This was shown at the National Show at Topeka in 1942. While it did not win any recognition, it was very much admired. Mr. Wassenberg thought it the most distinctive flower there. My note in the Bulletin #87 says "One of them (Dr. Cooper's seedlings) a pure white bomb was the nearest approach to a white Mons. Jules Elie that I have ever seen. It was No. 10. It may prove a great cut flower." Ruth Gallagher as described by Mr. Peyton. Bulletin 103.

RUTH LOCKIE (Kummer, 1941) - Double - Dark Pink. Fragrant. Medium dark pink. List in Bulletin 91.

RUTH MARKIE (Pfeiffer, 1932) - Double - Pink - Late. Tall. Fragrant. Light pink; good propagator. List in Bulletin 91.

RUY BIAS (Dessert, 1905) - Double - Pink - Midseason. 1930 Wild catalog: Semi-rose type; midseason. Large fine flowers, lively china-pink tinted pure mauve and tipped with silver, free bloomer. A beauty. M.

R. W. MARSH (Kelway) - Single - Crimson - Midseason.

SABLE (Glasscock, 1943) - Single - Almost Black - Early - Hybrid. Albiflora x Otto Froebel, 2nd generation. Bulletin 103.

SAGAMORE (Jones, 1943) - Jap. - Blush - Midseason. Blush guards, yellow petaloids. Stigmas and disc yellow. List in Bulletin 91.

SAGOROMA (Millet, 1924) - Jap. - Pink - Midseason.

SAINFOIN (Kelway, 1890) - Double - Rose - DISCARDED - Midseason.

SALEM (Auten, 1931) - Double - Red - Midseason. Tall. Fragrant. Red that carries a little purple but not objectionable. Medium sized bloom on a stem good for cutting, but not extra heavy or stiff. Worthy of trial for commercial cut flowers. List in Bulletin 91 and 47 catalogs.

SALMON BEAUTY (Glasscock-Auten, 1939) - Double - Pink - Very Early - Officinalis Hyb. Blooms with officinalis rubra. Large double bloom with rather narrow center petals approaching the incurved bomb type. The color is a glowing rich pink with a distinct and unusual salmon cast. The plant is a vigorous, healthy grower producing freely the flowers on long strong stems. This variety is the first to show this color, an entirely new color in double peonies. Both in the garden and in the exhibit among all the others. Albiflora x officinalis. Bulletin 76.

SALMON GLORY (Glasscock, 1947) - Double - Deep Pink - Very Early - Hybrid. Tall. Seedling No. 28 V 1. Deep salmon pink double. Tall with adequate stems. 'Officinalis rosea plena' x albiflora. Bulletin 108.

SALMON GLOW (Glasscock, 1947) - Single - Salmon Pink - Early - Hybrid. Medium height. No. 8 R 44 seedling. Many stems. Upright plant. Albiflora x officinalis Sunbeam. Bulletin 108.

SALUTE (Kelsey, 1936) - Jap. - Pink - Midseason. Very large, pink, guard petals with light yellow staminodes shading to a deeper yellow at base. List in Bulletin 109.

SAMBO (Auten, 1950) - Double - Red - Midseason. Just above medium height. Brilliant red, double, an unusual shade. Stiff stems. Mr. Auten's 1955 letter.

SAM DONALDSON (Brand, 1943) - Double - Red - Late. Very rich dark red. Globular form. Looks like another fine Brand red that may top many others. Lists in Bulletins 91 and 130.

SAMOSET (Hollis, 1907) - Double - Pink - Midseason.

SAMUEL HENSHAW (Richardson, 1904) - Double - Pink - Midseason.

SAMUEL HILL (Berneche, 1932) - Single - Pink. Apple blossom pink. Very large flowers, extra good for cutting variety. Bulletin 51.

SAMUEL HUGHSS (Kelway, 1917) - Double - Amaranth - Midseason. "Heavy blooming tall plants that produce many clusters of semi-double flowers. Color brilliant rose pink." Mrs. D. Y. Dunn. M.

SANBO NISHIKA - Jap. - Pink. Bulletin 76, page 23.

SANCTUARY (Auten, 1933) - Double - White - Early Midseason. Tall. Very large double bloom; a very decided creamy white, some blooms spotless, others with heavy red splashes in center. Substance is extra heavy, plant very rugged, and a much admired variety. Stiff stems. Bulletin 54. List in Bulletin 91 and 61
