Angel Cheeks (Klehm, before 1975) Cameo-pink, bomb-type double, fragrant, midseason, 32" tall, lactiflora cultivar. Striking pastel pink with a narrow band of ivory petals near the flower base. Charming!

Ann Berry Cousins (Cousins, 1972) Salmon-pink, single to semi-double, early midseason, 30" tall, hybrid. A sturdy plant holds lovely salmon pink flowers with yellow stamens.

Ann Cousins (Cousins, 1946) White, full double, fragrant, late, 32" tall, lactiflora cultivar. Large, lovely, full double flowers need support. You'll love the rose fragrance!

Athena (Saunders, 1955) Ivory, single, very early, 30" tall, quadruple hybrid. This ivory flower glows with raspberry flares surrounding yellow stamens. One of the earliest to bloom. Very unusual and fit for royalty!

Bartzella (Anderson, 1986) Yellow, semi-double to double, fragrant, midseason, 30" tall, intersectional. Lemon-yellow flowers centered with a soft touch of red with white-tipped carpels. Flower form varies from semi-double to double. The bush is dark green with lovely large deeply cut leaves. The 6"-8" blooms have a lemon fragrance.

Belleville (H. Wolfe/Hollingsworth, 1998) Light Cyclamen purple, anemone-bomb, midseason, 34" tall, lactiflora. Striking color contrast of darker guard petals surrounding a mound of smaller, lighter center petals. May need support.

Bess Bockstoce (Bockstoce, 1955) Deep Pink, full double, early, 33" tall, hybrid. Flower opens deep pink then outer petals fade while the tightly packed inner petals retain the deep pink color for a very unusual effect. Hard to find. Limited.

Big Ben (Auten, 1943) Red, bomb-type double, early-midseason, very fragrant, 36" tall, lactiflora cultivar. Medium red bomb center is framed by large guard petals. Opens well on stiff stems. Good in hot climates. Love that fragrance - rare in red peonies!

Blaze (Orville W. Fay, 1973) Red, single to semi-double, midseason, 32" tall, hybrid. Bright red wavy petals with a golden center. It is a strong growing variety with sturdy plant habit. It blooms on dark green foliage. Brightens up the season!

Bowl of Beauty (Hoogendorn, 1949) Pink, Japanese, fragrant, midseason, 32" tall, lactiflora cultivar. Pink outer petals surround a center of creamy staminodes. Ours frequently has a fountain of deep rose petals bursting from center!

Bowl of Cream (Klehm, 1963) Creamy white, double, midseason, 34" tall, lactiflora cultivar. Very large, luscious cream-white flower. APS Gold Medal winner 1981. Wonderful cut flower!

Buckeye Belle (Mains, 1956) Extremely dark red, semi-double, early, 30" tall, hybrid. The very dark petals (almost chocolate-red) are sprinkled with golden stamens. Quite striking maroon fall foliage!

Candy Heart (Bigger, 1961) White with red peppermint candy stripes, double, midseason, 34" tall, lactiflora cultivar. Large white petals with light red streaks and shading.

Carina (Saunders, 1944) Scarlet, single to semi-double, midseason, 33" tall, hybrid. Scarlet petals cupped around a small yellow center. Nice cut flower with brilliant color.

Carol (Bockstoce, 1955) Red, double, lightly fragrant, midseason, 34" tall, hybrid. Cardinal red, full flower with large petals arranged in a neat rosette, slightly fragrant. Flowers need support.

Cavatina (Saunders, 1935) Deep rose-pink, single, very early, 26" tall, hybrid. Dark but bright rose flowers with a great golden heart. Blooms here the first week of May. Glossy, dark green, rounded foliage makes a nice garden contrast.

Charlie's White (Klehm, 1951) White, crown-type double, early, 36" tall, lactiflora cultivar. Large outer petals surround globular incurved white bomb with a glow of yellow from inside. Tall enough to be at the back of the border. A popular cut flower.

Cheddar Pom Pom (Roy Klehm, 1986) White, Japanese, fragrant, midseason, 36" tall, lactiflora cultivar. A double row of white petals frame an attractive pompom ball of twisted golden staminodes.

Chief Wapello (W. Smith, 1971) Dark ruby red, double, fragrant, midseason, 34" tall, lactiflora. An attractive red that is fairly new to us. Caught my eye at the APS show.

Chocolate Soldier (Auten, 1939) Dark, reddish-brown, Japanese, midseason, 28" tall, hybrid. The deep, near chocolate petal color is set off by yellow anthers and red carpals. The flower type can range to double. A hard to find variety.

Comanche (Bigger, 1957) Magenta, Japanese, midseason, 36" tall, lactiflora cultivar. A multi-colored center of cream and magenta staminodes surrounded by magenta guard petals. Very striking!

Cora Louise (Anderson, 1986) White with deep lavender flares, semi-double, slightly fragrant, midseason, 24" tall, intersectional. A striking contrast of lavender flares in this white bloom. It has the dark green, deeply cut foliage of the tree peony parent and pleasing bush shape. Some fragrance. Rare.

Coral Charm (Wissing, 1965) Coral, semi-double, early-midseason, 40" tall, hybrid. Very vigorous, large cup-shaped flowers. Exotic deep coral that fades to a softer color on opening. May need staking. APS Gold Medal winner 1986.

Coral 'n Gold (Cousins-Roy Klehm, 1981) Coral-peach, single, midseason, 34" tall, hybrid. Deep coral cup-shaped flowers enhanced by a center of golden stamens. Our floral arranger's favorite!

Coral Sunset (Wissing-Carl G. Klehm, 1981) Coral, semi-double, early, 32" tall, hybrid. The petals have ruffled edges that increase the flower fullness. Fades from coral to ivory. Our most spectacular coral flower! 2003 APS Gold Medal.

Courage (Bigger, 1968) Light pink, semi-double, midseason, 32" tall, lactiflora cultivar. This unique flower is a light pink with darker pink 'paint flecks' evenly distributed on the petals. God gave it special attention. Rare.

Couronne d' Or (Calot, 1873) Creamy white, double, midseason, 30" tall, lactiflora cultivar. Very unusual with a ring of yellow stamens between inner tuft of pale blush petals and larger outer petals. In overcast weather the outer petals open pink. A very lovely heirloom variety.

Cream Puff (Marx-Rogers, 1981) Pink, Japanese, midseason, 36" tall, lactiflora cultivar. A delicate, lacy center of 'shredded' yellow and pink staminodes cupped by cherry pink guard petals. Another flower arrangers delight!

Crusader (Glasscock, 1940) Scarlet red, semi-double, 32" tall, early, hybrid. Striking scarlet red semi-double flower with three rows of petals that surround glittering golden stamens.

Cytherea (Saunders, 1953) Deep rose, semi-double, early, 24" tall, hybrid. Lovely deep rose colored cupped flowers. APS Gold Medal winner 1980. A sought-after color!

Dawn Pink (Sass, 1946) Rose pink, single, midseason, 34" tall, lactiflora cultivar. Striking bright pink single with a glowing yellow center. Stands tall in the rain. A row in bloom makes a sea of warm pink!

Dolorodell (Lins, 1942) Pink, double, late, 36" tall, lactiflora cultivar. Large pink blooms, up to 8" across, on strong stems. APS Gold Medal winner 1984.

Doreen (Sass, 1949) Magenta-rose, Japanese, slightly fragrant, midseason, 32" tall, lactiflora cultivar. The magenta-rose outer petals are set off by a massive center of golden petaloids. A distinctive flower.

Dr. Alexander Fleming (ex England) Warm pink, double, fragrant, late, 36" tall, lactiflora cultivar. A large, deep rose-pink double known for its sweet fragrance. Produces many side buds for long bloom season.

Edulis Superba (Lemon, 1824) Pink, double, fragrant, midseason, 36" tall, lactiflora cultivar. A deep pink double with a collar of smaller ivory petals at the base. A very old, tried and true variety with a bonus of fragrance!.

Faith Fenton (Brethour) Pink with lavender tones, double, fragrant, midseason, 40" tall, lactiflora cultivar. The large, rose-type double blooms are pink/lavender, interspersed with a few yellow stamens. Needs support. Fragrance with a rare color!

Feather Top (Wild, 1970) Rose-pink, Japanese, midseason, 32" tall, lactiflora cultivar. Unusual shaped bloom with a pouf of slightly lighter pink petals out of the center surrounded by golden staminodes. A real charmer!

Felix Supreme (Kriek, 1955) Ruby red, double, midseason, 34" tall, lactiflora cultivar. Frothy petals make it an excellent cut flower. Dark green foliage and strong growth habit.

Festiva Maxima (Miellez, 1851) White, double, fragrant, early, 36" tall, lactiflora cultivar. A massive, loose rose-form flower of pure white lightly flecked with crimson. Its sterling qualities of growth, color and fragrance make it most desirable even after 150 years!.

First Arrival (Anderson, 1986) Lavender-pink, semi-double, midseason, 28" tall, intersectional. Pink to lavender semi-double with red flares. A rounded bush with dark green, deeply cut foliage. Abundantly flowers.

Flame (Glasscock, 1939) Red-orange, single, early, 32" tall, hybrid. Total effect of a red flame with a yellow center, hence, the name. A good peony for a site in partial shade.

Georgiana Shaylor (Shaylor, 1908) Pink, double, late-midseason, very fragrant, 32" tall, lactiflora cultivar. A very large rose-type flower. Good for garden and as a cut flower.

Goldilocks (Gilbertson, 1975) Yellow, anemone to bomb-type double, slight fragrance, late-midseason, 28" tall, hybrid. As the plant matures the flower form turns from anemone to a bomb-type double. A gorgeous yellow that will stand out in the flower bed. Hard to find.

Henry Bockstoce (Bockstoce, 1955) Rich cardinal red, double, midseason, 40" tall, hybrid. Heavy petal substance with a deep red sheen. Large flowers on long stems. Flowers may need support in the garden.

Horizon (Saunders, 1943) Flesh-pink, single, very early, 36" tall, hybrid. Striking very early flower of single flesh-pink petals topped with very long spidery golden stamens. Lovely in oriental arrangements.

James Pillow (Pillow, 1936) Pink, double, late, 38" tall, lactiflora cultivar. The pink petals are suffused with a yellow inner glow for a very soft, warm effect.

John Harvard (Auten, 1939) Very dark red, single to semi-double, midseason, 36" tall, hybrid. A magnificent peony that has won high awards in competition!

Kansas (Bigger, 1940) Red, double, mid season, 36" tall, lactiflora cultivar. Rose-type flowers of watermelon-red on strong dark green stems. APS Gold Medal winner, 1957.

Krinkled White (Brand, 1928) Pure white, single, midseason, 34" tall, lactiflora cultivar. Large, white, crepe-paper textured petals with small tuft of golden yellow stamens in center. Stands up in rain. Spectacular in a row or grouping!

Laddie (Glasscock, 1941) Red, single, very early, 12"-18" tall, hybrid. The finely cut leaves and dwarf stature of this plant are a result of a cross between P. officinalis and P. tenuifolia (single fern-leaf peony).

Lady Alexandra Duff (Kelway, 1902) Blush, double, fragrant, midseason, 36" tall, lactiflora cultivar. The pale mauve-pink flowers lighten in the center. A much loved heirloom variety with a loose, romantic form.

Lancaster Imp (Klehm, 1987) Milky white, bomb-type double, fragrant, midseason, 32" tall, lactiflora cultivar. This is a wonderful landscape plant that holds its flowers at the surface of the foliage. Compact bloom good for floral arrangements.

Le Cygne (Lemoine, 1907) Ivory-white, double, fragrant, early-midseason, 34" tall, lactiflora cultivar. Name means 'The Swan'. A very large, perfectly formed double, opening creamy white, aging to pure white with a touch of green at the heart. A long-time favorite.

Lillian Wild (Wild, 1930) Off-white, double, late midseason, 32" tall, lactiflora cultivar. Very large flower with a flat face. On opening it is tinged with a delicate flesh pink center that fades to off white.

Lois (Sass, 1941) Pink, double, fragrant, early, 26" tall, lactiflora cultivar. A medium size, pink bomb-type flower with lavendar tones.

Lottie Dawson Rea (Rea, 1939) Light pink, double, midseason, 36" tall, lactiflora cultivar. A light pink ruffled flower with exquisite tints. A good cut flower.

Madame deVernville (Crousse,1885) White, double, very fragrant, early midseason, 31" tall, lactiflora cultivar. Center crown of white with a few crimson flecks and a glow of yellow from the inner base. Heirloom variety with a pleasant rose scent.

Marietta Sisson (Sass, 1933) Magenta-rose, semi-double, very fragrant, late, 34" tall, lactiflora cultivar. Very large, warm flowers with a pleasant fragrance.

Mary Jo Legare (Pherson, 1978) Deep pink, double, midseason, 24" tall, hybrid. A very deep pink double with outer petals that fade after opening. Outstanding color!.

May Lilac (Klehm, 1987) Lilac, single, early, 32" tall, hybrid. A cup shaped bloom that stays lilac in our cool climate. The plant shows the large light green rounded foliage of its macrophylla parent making it a nice landscape contrast to the lactiflora peonies.

Merry Mayshine (Saunders/Smetana, 1994) Red, single, fragrant, early, 30" tall, hybrid. Bright crimson flowers with yellow centers stand tall on the unusual ferny-leafed plant. Very striking in the garden during bloom and later as a foliage plant.

Minnie Shaylor (Shaylor, 1919) White, semi-double, midseason, 33" tall, lactiflora cultivar. A very striking white bloom set off by a center of red carpels surrounded by bright yellowe stamens.

Miss America (Mann-van Steen, 1936) White, semi-double, fragrant, midseason, 36" tall, lactiflora cultivar. Pure white cupped flowers from blush-pink buds on strong stems. APS Gold Medal winner 1956.

Mister Ed (Klehm,1980) Blushing pink, bomb-type double, lightly fragrant, midseason, 36" tall, lactiflora cultivar. May have pink flowers and luscious blush-cream blooms on the same bush. Good cut flower with a light fragrance.

Monsieur Jules Elie (Crousse, 1888) Pink, bomb-type double, fragrant, midseason, 36" tall, lactiflora cultivar. These lightly fragrant blossoms are a lively light rose-pink. This heirloom classic is a good cut flower. May need support.

Morning Lilac (Anderson, 1999) Fuschia purple, single to semi-double, 28" tall, intersectional. An unusual color on a large-petaled flower. It can be seen from across the field. Good plant habit and dark foliage.

Mother's Choice (Glasscock, 1950) Creamy white, double, fragrant, late-midseason, 34" tall, lactiflora. A very large flower packed with beautifully arranged petals that sometimes have a slight edge of red. Strong stems.

Mrs. FDR (Franklin, 1932) Light pink, double, midseason, fragrant, 28" tall, lactiflora. A soft shell pink with incurved petals in rose form. The size, color and form combine to make this a most attractive flower. APS Gold Medal winner, 1948.

Mrs. Frank Beach (Brand, 1925) White, double, fragrant, midseason, 33" tall, lactiflora cultivar. Large creamy white, flat, perfect rose-type flower.

My Love (Hollingsworth, 1992) Pearl white, double, mild fragrance, midseason, 34" tall, lactiflora cultivar. A strong growing bush that stands up to weather. The pearl flower fades to white.

Nick Shaylor (Allison, 1931) Blush, double, late-midseason, 36" tall, lactiflora cultivar. Blush or light pink bloom with full rose flower form. An outstanding beauty. APS Gold Medal Winner 1941 and 1972.

Nippon Beauty (Auten, 1927) Deep garnet, Japanese, late, 32" tall, lactiflora cultivar. The garnet blooms have petaloid tips flushed and edged in gold. Lovely in arrangements. A real bonus is reddish colored seedpods.

Old Faithful (Glasscock-Falk, 1964) Dark velvet red, double, 36" tall, midseason, hybrid. Petals have heavy substance. The plant has strong stems and healthy, dark green foliage. The most regal of reds. APS Gold Medal Winner, 1997.

Old Rose Dandy (Chris Laning, 1993) Brick-red, single, midseason, 32" tall, intersectional. A fast increasing plant with delightful brick-red flowers. Lovely landscape plant with robust dark green color.

Paladin (Saunders, 1950) Carmine-red, semi-double, midseason, 20" tall, hybrid. A glowing red, tulip shaped flower on a rounded, tidy, dwarf plant suitable for borders.

Pastel Splendor (Anderson/Seidl, 1996) Creamy white with red flares, single, midseason, 33" tall, intersectional. As named, this flower changes from pinks to yellows toward the large center of many carpels surrounded by red flares.

Paul M. Wild (Wild, 1964) Ruby-red, double, late-midseason, 36" tall, lactiflora cultivar. Large, luscious velvety red flowers that are fully double and resist fading. A favorite of mine.

Paula Fay (Fay, 1968) Shocking pink, semi-double, early, 35" tall, hybrid. A lustrous pink semi-double that lights up the garden and your spirits early in the season! APS Gold Medal, 1988.

Pink Derby (Bigger, 1966) Pink, bomb-type double, fragrant, midseason, 36" tall, lactiflora cultivar. Center petals mixed light pink and cream, contrast with the bright pink of the outer petals.

Pink Hawaiian Coral (Roy Klehm, 1981) Coral, semi-double, fragrant, early, 34" tall, hybrid. Opens a redder coral than other corals, with notched petal edges and a center of yellow stamens. APS Gold Medal Winner 2000.

Pink Parfait (Klehm, 1975) Vivid pink, full double, mild fragrance, very late, 36" tall, lactiflora cultivar. Huge blooms with silvered petal edges. A very late season bloomer.

Pink Pearl (Sass, 1937) Pink, double, very fragrant, midseason, 30" tall, lactiflora cultivar. A very fragrant double pink on a shorter plant that holds the flowers up nicely.

Polar Star (Sass, 1932) White, Japanese, midseason, 36" tall, lactiflora cultivar. The white guard petals have a pink flush. The center is a mound of yellow staminodes creating a lacy pastel effect.

Prairie Charm (Hollingsworth, 1992) Light yellow, semi-double, midseason, 30" tall, intersectional. A yellow flower with a red flares at each petal base. Forms a substantial upright bush with nicely notched light green leaves.

Prairie Moon (Fay, 1959) Pale yellow, single to semi-double, midseason, 32" tall, hybrid. A soft yellow that gives emphasis to any garden or flower arrangement. Place behind complimentary plants as the foliage is not outstanding.

Princess Margaret (Murawska,1960) Dark pink, double, fragrant, late-midseason, 34" tall, lactiflora cultivar. This enormous full double flower is a rich rose-pink with strong stems.

Raspberry Charm (Wissing-Roy Klehm, 1985) Raspberry-red, semi-double, mid-season, 36" tall, hybrid. A very lovely color enhanced with a center of golden stamens. Reliable with strong stems. It stole my heart at first sight.

Raspberry Sundae (Klehm, 1968) Pink, double, fragrant, midseason, 36" tall, lactiflora cultivar. Looks like a scoop of vanilla ice cream with raspberry topping dripping through the petals. Distinctive form and color with a mild, sweet fragrance. Excellent cut flower.

Red Charm (Glasscock, 1944) Deep red, bomb-type double, early, 32" tall, hybrid. Gigantic double bomb of deep crimson with a multitude of petals piled high in the center. Slight clove fragrance. APS Gold Medal Winner, 1956. Our most popular peony.

Red Grace (Glasscock, 1980) Deep red, bomb-type double, midseason, 32" tall, hybrid. The same color as Red Charm but with a flower so tightly petaled it is almost a complete globe. Unusual ball shaped flower.

Red Satin (Sass, 1937) Red, double, midseason, 32" tall, hybrid. Think of the sheen of a deep red satin and this is it! The petals are very large and stand upright, making a striking statement.

Rivida (John Harrell, 1985) Violet-red, single, midseason, 30" tall, lactiflora cultivar. Flower is an unusual color. The red seed pods are excellent for dried arrangements.

Rosedale (Auten, 1936) Dark red, semi-double to double, early, 26" tall, hybrid. A deep red flower with petals of great substance. Resembles an old fashioned rose. A wonderful, compact border plant.

Roselette (Saunders, 1950) Blush-pink, single, very early, 34" tall, hybrid. A sweet flower with clear pink, textured petals framing yellow stamens. Its early color is a delight in the garden!

Rozella (Reath, 1991) Dark pink, double, late, 31" tall, hybrid. A large, rose-type double with strong stems and profuse bloom.

Salmon Beauty (Glasscock-Auten, 1939) Pink, double, early, 30" tall, hybrid. Unusual opaque stripes in the pink petals. The flower stays a long time on plant, fading to white. Finely cut foliage of a lighter green. Our first pink double to bloom.

Sarah Bernhardt (Lemoine, 1906) Pink, double, fragrant, late, 36" tall, lactiflora cultivar. Double flowers of soft seashell pink with petals edged a trifle lighter with a few crimson flecks. Grandma's favorite pink double.

Scarlet O'Hara (Falk-Glasscock,1956) Red, single, early, 36" tall, hybrid. Large, fiery red single. Superb, rich green foliage and on a very vigorous, easy to grow plant.

Sea Shell (Sass, 1937) Pink, single, midseason, 37" tall, lactiflora cultivar. Bright, satiny pink flowers with tall grace and elegance. Upright and vigorous. APS Gold Medal winner, 1990.

Shawnee Chief (Bigger,1940) Red, double, late mid-season, 36" tall, lactiflora cultivar. Outer 3 rings of petals are larger than center petals. Strong stems and a good cut flower.

Shawnee Rose (Bigger, 1979) Dark pink, double, late-midseason, 36" tall, lactiflora cultivar. Lovely double, dark pink developed by the late Myron Bigger of Topeka, Kansas.

Shirley Temple (Smirnow before 1948) Blush, double, light fragrance, midseason, 34" tall, lactiflora cultivar. Medium-sized, pale pink fading to white blossoms with petals arranged in whorls. Very delicate appearance.

Smouthi (France, 1845) Red, single, very early, 36" tall, hybrid. A single red bloom with a golden center that stands out with its ferny-leafed foliage. Makes a lovely contrast plant with its deeply cut foliage. Our earliest bloomer!

Snow Mountain (Bigger, 1946) Snow white, bomb-type double, midseason, 34" tall, lactiflora cultivar. The flower opens to a loose, high mountain of snow white petals with an inner glow of yellow, sometimes with red flecks.

Sparkling Star (Bigger, 1953) Bright dark pink, single, early, 30" tall, lactiflora. Many large bright flowers on a medium height attractive bush. Singles stand up well to rain. This one has many sidebuds for a prolonged bloom.

Sunny Girl (Laning, 1985) Yellow, double, early, 32" tall, hybrid. A large, butter-yellow, full double peony. The flowers are so large that the stems need support. Our guests rave about it. Rarely offered.

Sweet May (Saunders, 1955) Pink, single, very early, 30" tall, hybrid. A charming flower with a lovely blend of salmon-pink and ivory. Another early bloomer to brighten the garden!

Sword Dance (Auten, 1933) Red, japanese, late, 36" tall, lactiflora cultivar. Bright red petals surround an unusual arrangement of yellow staminoides streaked with red. An unusual and outstanding flower that drew attention even as a first year plant.

Tourangelle (Dessert, 1910) Apple-blossom pink, double, fragrant, midseason, 36" tall. lactiflora cultivar. Apple-blossom pink double with cream-white toning at base gives a romantic effect. Needs support in the garden. Intoxicating fragrance.

Virginia Dare (Newhouse, 1939) White, single, midseason, 36" tall, lactiflora cultivar. An exquisite white flower with bright yellow center. Stands tall in the weather.

Vivid Rose (Klehm, 1952) Bright rose-pink, double, late-midseason, 34" tall, lactiflora cultivar. Vivid deep pink double with the outside of petals slightly lighter in color.

White Frost (Reath, 1991) White, double, fragrant, midseason, 30" tall, hybrid. A lovely rose-type double that is very fragrant. It is held upright on strong stems. Buds streaked with red.

White Innocence (Saunders, 1947) White, single, late midseason, 48" tall, hybrid. Very unusual single flowers with a center similar to an empress magnolia. Many small flowers on tall stems. Very unique.
