During the busride to Maerkang we found along the road the first population of Paeonia anomala subsp. veitchii. Very typical with 3 to 4 flowers per stem, light rose coloured flowers, tall plants up to 70 cm.

Species: Paeonia anomala subsp. veitchii

Location: N-W Sichuan, near Maerkang

Altitude: 2600m

Size of natural population: scattered in scrub on a steep slope, maybe some dozend plants, maybe hundreds
